DOHA: The Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning has turned down a proposal by the Central Municipal Council (CMC) to allow more floors for buildings on the D-Ring Road.
CMC Chairman Saud Al Hanzab said that he had received a letter from the Minister of Municipality and Urban Planning HE Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin Khalifa Al Thani in this regard.
The proposal has been rejected on the ground that adding more floors to buildings on this major highway could undermine urban and transportation plans for the area and the city, the Minister told the CMC, Al Sharq reported yesterday.
Building highrise structures will require redesigning water supply, electricity and sewage networks in the area and could affect traffic.
So it has been decided to maintain the status quo for buildings on the highway, said the daily.
