DOHA: Qatar will have nine new hospitals, 18 new primary health centres and two branches of the Medical Commission by 2016, according to the 2012 annual report of the Supreme Council of Health (SCH).

Three of the new hospitals will be under SCH and the other six hospitals will be managed by the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), some of which are already under construction.

Two new hospitals — Al Wakra and Cuban Hospital — were opened in 2012 and the number of staff in the health sector rose by 16 percent, Al Sharq said yesterday, quoting the report.
