DOHA: A British delegation recently visited the Qatar Meteorology Department, held discussions with officials and agreed on several issues, including cooperating in the development of existing forecast models and entering into a partnership.
The director of the department and heads of different sections welcomed the guests from the British Meteorology Office, Ian Lisk, Director, National Hazard Department, and Gavin Hey, Director, International Development Department.
The delegation saw facilities and were briefed on projects, including the Numerical Weather Prediction Project, the Early Warning Project and the Gulf Marine Centre.
Both sides also reviewed cooperation and agreed to set up a joint committee, sign a memorandum of understanding, exchange experiences on creative services for the World Cup 2022, cooperate with the Disaster Reduction Centre, British Meteorology Office, train Qatari students at British training centres as forecasters and give chance to Met personnel to complete studies in meteorological specialisations.
