Doha: The newly-opened Health and Wellness Centre in Muaither, by the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), provides comprehensive health services with a special focus on family medicine.
It has become the first health centre in the Western Region and second in the country to provide family medicine, says Dr Sahar Salem Al Marri, Manager, Muaither Health and Wellness Centre.
“The health centre in Leabaib is the first one to provide family medicine and we are the second. What we do is something unique, family medicine will be presented in a new way at the Muaither Health Centre. A management and follow up model has been adopted, in which every patient will have an assigned family physician, which assures better understanding and enhances quality services in a long run,” she told The Peninsula.
The Health and Wellness Centre in Muaither has 29 family physicians 29 and each with an assigned nurse.
The centre provides wide spectrum of services including general family medicine clinics which cover the followings; antenatal care, well women clinics, communicable disease clinics, travel medicine and also non-communicable diseases clinics.
Triage services, well-baby clinics, dental services as well as specialised clinics which include ENT, audiology, dermatology, ophthalmology clinics, optometrist , physiotherapy and dietitian clinics are also provided.
All these services are working together with well- equipped laboratory which can perform wide variety of tests. Also, the pharmacy provides all medications and vaccinations for the patients. In addition, radiology section for different radiological imagining.
Additionally, the centre maintains patient medical records, issue and renew health cards, have social workers, provide customer service and medical commission services.
There is also planning underway to operate a healthy life style clinic, provide health coach services, cancer screening, and open a smart clinic and an annual checkup clinic soon at the Centre.
The centre in Muaither is of category C, which means there is a wellness gym, spa area and swimming pool facilities, where the exercise programmes are used to be part of the patient’s management plan.
The centre started operations in April 2018 and residents of Muaither 55, Abu Sidra, Rawdat Abu Al Hiran, Al Mearad and Al Sailiya are eligible to register with the Health and Wellness Centre in Muaither. It has the total capacity of serving 50,000 people.
“The number of patients getting registered is increasing. We have exceeded more than 10,000 by the end of April, which includes both Qatari and non Qatari patients. The Number is expected to double by end of the year, since the surrounding areas are highly populated,” said Dr Sahar.
She also said that the centre will help to reduce pressure on the nearby health centres.
Referring to the goals of the centre in serving the population Dr Sahar said, “Muaither Health and Wellness Centre is a newly launched facility which will be working parallel to the PHCC’s goal in serving the National Health Strategy and Qatar National Vision 2030. Our aim is to keep high standards of patient safety and provide a quality service which will meet Accreditation Canada International (ACI) standards.”
It is located on the southern side of Muaither, alongside the road to Sailiyah. The 19,700sqm building also has a two-level basement car park would accommodate 376 vehicles at one time. In the centre compound, there is shaded parking facility for no less than 100 cars.
