Doha: British author H Aitoro has launched three new children’s books that celebrate diversity and global culture, including that of Qatar.

The Global Friendship series are a collection of picture books for children aged four to seven.

The author has represented Qatar, Oman, Yemen and Arabic and Islamic cultures within the book with sections on Arabic phrases, pictures of Qatari sites such as the Fanar, Museum of Islamic Art and children in traditional dress.

Aitoro, the author and illustrator, said he was not satisfied with the lack of books about diversity and global cultural available for children to read. He decided to address the issue by creating bright, fun and culturally diverse children’s picture books.  He is also currently working on an Arabic translation of the book which will be launched in the next few months.

The Global Friendship series are a collection of five books which are an A to Z guide to different countries of the world. The series aim to teach children about different countries, cultures and languages.

Aitoro used his knowledge of different cultures and countries coupled with inspiration and guidance from his daughter Amara to entertain and educate young children about the world.

The books serve as an introduction for both children and parents to learn about places and cultures that they would not normally read about in popular English children’s books or on English speaking children’s programmes.

The author aims to teach children through the collection about the world and people so that they may mature into adults who are aware about and open to different cultures and countries. Children who are exposed to different cultures and learn about the positive aspects of different cultures grow up open minded and less inclined to embrace prejudice or racist views towards others.

The three books from the Global Friendship collection cover the following countries: Kazakhstan, Luxembourg, Mexico, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Russia, Singapore, Trinidad and Tobago, United Kingdom, Vietnam, Western Samoa, Yemen and Zambia. The Peninsula
