ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has taken up with the US the issue of billions of Pakistani intelligence reports allegedly stolen by the US National Security Agency.

“Additional Secretary Naghmana Hashmi took up the issue with the US Charge d’affaires Richard Hoagland to ascertain the veracity of the news,” a spokesman at the Foreign Office said yesterday when asked about reports that the US was stealing intelligence reports from the world over.

Also Asad Majeed Khan, Pakistan’s Charge d’affaires in Washington, took up the matter with authorities there.

Reports said that the US National Security Agency had stolen 13.5 billion intelligence reports from Pakistan.

On drone strikes inside Pakistan, the spokesman said: “The prime minister has called for an end to strikes. On his instructions, his special assistant met the US charge d’affaires to convey a strong message that the strikes violate Pakistan’s sovereignty and are not in keeping with international law or UN Charter or the norms of inter-state relations.”                 Internews
