Doha, Qatar: In line with its efforts to strengthen the healthcare sector in the Republic of Chad, QRCS (Qatar Red Crescent Society) has funded a project to establish and equip a comprehensive dialysis unit at Al-Nahda University Hospital in the capital, N’Djamena.

The project is being implemented by the Chadian Medical Organisation in coordination with local health authorities.

Minister of Public Health and Prevention of the Republic of Chad H E Dr. Abdelmadjid Abdelrahim Mohamed, officially inaugurated the dialysis unit at Al-Nahda University Hospital in N’Djamena. The ceremony was attended by Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Chad H E Talib bin Mohammed Al-Mankhas, as well as President of the Chadian Red Cross Khaled Mohamed.

The event also attended by some representatives from the Senate and Parliament, health advisors to the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister, medical staff, and representatives of several international and local organisations.

This project comes as a direct response to the urgent needs of patients suffering from chronic kidney failure in Chad, who for many years have endured a severe shortage of dialysis services. Many patients were compelled to travel abroad to receive treatment, facing significant financial and social burdens. The inauguration of this unit represents a beacon of hope for kidney patients and their families, enabling access to treatment within the country, alleviating hardship, improving quality of life, and ensuring continuity of care.

The new unit marks a significant advancement in the level of healthcare services provided, featuring modern and advanced equipment, including an integrated water treatment system that ensures the highest quality standards for dialysis services. It also introduces advanced technologies such as hemodiafiltration for the first time in the country.

The center is equipped with 10 modern dialysis machines, 10 specialised medical chairs, and an advanced water treatment unit, along with all necessary medical consumables to ensure uninterrupted operations, thereby providing an integrated and comfortable treatment environment for patients.

This project aligns with the shared priorities of Qatar Red Crescent and the Chadian government to develop healthcare infrastructure and enhance the efficiency of medical services for citizens. With a total cost of approximately $507,150.90, the initiative reflects Qatar Red Crescent’s commitment to supporting healthcare systems in countries in need and strengthening their capacity to deliver sustainable services.
