DOHA: A Nepalese construction worker, who had his right leg fractured when a speeding four-wheeler ran over him and several others in Lusail last Thursday, was yesterday shifted to the general ward of Hamad General Hospital.
Aaitwari Chowdhary, 34, said he and others were waiting in a shaded area along a main road for their company transport after finishing work in Lusail City in the afternoon when they saw a car moving in from their right side on the road in a “very high speed”.
“Within seconds the car was on the pavement and came crushing us,” Chowdhary, whose right leg is plastered, told a senior official of his embassy here.
Recalling his conversation with Chowdhary in the hospital, the official told The Peninsula yesterday that Chowdhary had told him that he didn’t remember anything after that since he had fallen unconscious.
“The only thing I remember after that is that I was in the hospital bed,” the official quoted Chowdhary as saying.
According to the official, Chowdhary arrived in Qatar only 40 days before the accident left him with a broken leg and killing six workers — five Nepalese and one Indian — on the spot.
Chowdhary comes from Burdiya district and is unmarried.
Asked if the worker told him as to how many of them were waiting for the company transport at the time and what time it was when the mishap happened, the official said Chowdhary did not remember exact details.
“They had finished their work early in the fateful afternoon and were sitting on the pavement when the car came zooming in.”
The official said that Chowdhary also did not remember having seen the driver. The Peninsula
