Bangladesh Embassy celebrates inauguration of Padma Bridge

The Embassy of Bangladesh in Qatar, together with its community recently celebrated the inauguration of Padma Bridge, a multipurpose road-rail bridge across the Padma River, which connects Louhajong, Munshiganj to Shariatpur and Madaripur, linking the south-west of the country, to northern and eastern regions. 
The construction of the 6.15km long bridge was financed by Bangladesh’s own funds, and has connected 21 districts of the southwestern region with the Northern Central part of the country. 
It is expected that the longest bridge will play a significant role in the socio-economic development of the people of the region and boost the regional economic activities and contribute to overall growth of the country’s economy.
During the celebration, Bangladesh Ambassador to Qatar, H E Md. Jashim Uddin commended the Honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s leadership and expressed his deep gratitude to her for building the Padma Bridge with Bangladesh’s own funds. 
The envoy said the bridge would play a special role in industry, tourism, agriculture and education. Describing it as a symbol of self-confidence and self-respect, the Ambassador said that the Padma Bridge will inspire Bangladesh to undertake similar mega projects in the future.
