Washington: WhatsApp has announced a set of new features aimed at making group calls easier to plan and more interactive. The update focuses on helping users schedule calls in advance, manage participation, and improve real-time engagement during discussions.

The new call scheduling feature allows users to set up calls ahead of time directly from the Calls tab. By pressing the + button and selecting Schedule call, users can choose a date and time, invite individuals or groups, and share call links. Scheduled calls will appear in the Calls tab alongside details such as the attendee list and the option to add the event to a personal calendar. Participants will also receive a notification shortly before the scheduled call begins, ensuring fewer missed calls.

WhatsApp has also added hand raise and reactions for group calls. The hand raise option lets participants signal that they wish to speak, which can help maintain order in larger conversations. Reactions allow users to respond without interrupting the speaker, enabling a smoother and more engaging group call experience.

Call links, which allow people to join ongoing calls through a shared link, have also received an update. Now, the creator of a call link will receive a notification whenever someone joins via the link, improving awareness and participation tracking.
