Schoolteachers’ salary to be revised: Minister

DOHA: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education is preparing to revise the salary of Independent schoolteachers and follow a strict method in recruitment.  

This will be implemented to assure the stability of the teaching profession, said Minister of Education and Higher Education and the Secretary-General of the Supreme Education Council (SEC) H E Dr  Mohammed Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammadi yesterday. 

Also steps will be taken to strengthen and develop the professional skills of teachers the Minister  said speaking to directors of Independent and private schools, according to a statement by the SEC. 

Further, a team will assess the performances of teachers and the licences which have been provide to them by the SEC. Directors and other staff at schools also will come under the assessment. They will be given extensive training to develop their skills and knowledge. 

Steps will be taken to revise the curriculum and school timing with an aim to enhance the education system, according to the Minister. 

He added that any type of gifts given by the academic staff to school principals or directors would be considered as bribe.   

Students should be treated equally and the schools must avoid discrimination and shouldn’t insult students, the Minister stressed. 

He said a follow up and report system to record students’ activities and behaviour will be developed.  

The Minister stressed that schools must avoid insulting or degrading students in all ways and schools  must  warn students  before terminating them from school for any misbehaviour. 

He emphasised that a school’s role in educating students should go beyond the curriculum and provide them with extra activities to enhance their talents. 

As part of its steps to enhance education standards at schools the ministry will set up an authority for planning and development in education and training.
