DOHA: Inspectors from the Consumer Protection Department (CPD) caught 1,500 counterfeit items of different types from the market.Interestingly, the fake products were caught during a field visit for training of inspectors after a workshop that was held at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce.
CPD is part of the economy ministry, and the workshop was organised for its inspectors to train them to recognise famous brand-name products from their counterfeits.
Several experts took part in the workshop and senior officials from some companies with dealership rights of famous global brands of products also attended. The experts and company officials taught CPD inspectors taking part in the workshop latest techniques about how to tell between a brand-name commodity and it counterfeit.
After theory classes, the workshop participants were taken to the market with seasoned CPD inspectors and experts and raids were conducted on several outlets. During the raids on some 85 outlets, eight were singled out as they were storing for sale counterfeit products. They were fined, local Arabic daily Al Arab reported yesterday.The Peninsula
