Strong private sector key for Qatar economy, says minister

DOHA: H E Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim Al Thani, Minister of Economy and Commerce has underlined the importance of stimulating and enhancing the private sector in Qatar. A strong private sector is imperative to the economic, human, social and environmental development of the country, he said. 
Sheikh Ahmed was addressing the participants of  ‘Rising Leaders Programme’ at Qatar Leadership Centre’s (QLC) Policy Seminar.
At the seminar, the minister emphasized the value of building knowledge, and outlined how Qatar is working toward a knowledge-based economy as an integral part of further creating long-term economic prosperity. He discussed Qatar National Vision 2030, with special emphasis on the economic development of the state and the range of corresponding policies. He also touched upon the role of the Ministry to achieve the national vision. Sheikh Ahmed  also highlighted that the progress of Qatar’s economy and the achievements that Qatar has made over the last few years are apparent in the policies pursued by the State, and aligned with local and external developments.
The Minister of Economy and Commerce explained the role of the Ministry in consumer protection, market regulation and the preservation of competition, while reviewing the most important challenges the ministry is aiming to overcome. At the end of the seminar, he responded to the inquiries and questions from the Rising leaders participants related to the topics highlighted by the minister.
Sheikh Dr Abdullah bin Ali Al Thani, Managing Director of QLC and Member of the Board of Directors stated: “The extraordinary pace and scope of the growth and development Qatar has witnessed over the past decades, reflects the exceptional preservation of its leaders, on which Qatar’s success depends. We aspire to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030 by preparing our people to assume leadership positions within the State of Qatar”.
“The Qatar Policy Seminar is part of our tailored approach to learning – a combination of theory and practice in an interactive setting. It is this unique approach that enables participants in our programs to make important contributions to Qatar’s development”, he added.
