DOHA: The Doha Municipality has assigned 25 veterinarians to check the slaughtered sheep at five abattoirs in Qatar during Eid Al Adha holidays.
Slaughterhouses are expected to receive about 10,000 animals during the festival, since animal sacrifice is an important ritual of Eid Al Adha.
“A duty schedule for veterinarians has been prepared, and they will be available at the abattoirs immediately after the Eid prayers until 7pm on the first day of Eid. On the remaining days, they will work from 5am to 7pm,” Abdullah Ahmed Al Sulaiti, head of Meat Inspection Unit at Doha Municipality, said
The animals will be tested before and after slaughtering and if found unfit for human consumption, they will be destroyed.
The abattoirs have employed more staff to meet the Eid rush, said Al Sulaiti. The decision of the state-run livestock company Widam to sell animals before Eid will help reduce the crowds at slaughterhouses this year, he added. The Peninsula
