New York: Qatar has stressed that it attaches great importance to the issue of empowering women to enable them to exercise their rights.

Qatar also stressed that through the Constitution and legislation, the State is committed to applying the principle of equality among all citizens in all fields and ensuring decent work for women and enabling them to hold senior positions.

This came in an address to the Committee on Humanitarian, Social and Cultural Affairs of the UN General Assembly by Reem Ali Al Dirham, member of Qatar’s delegation taking part in the 68th General Assembly.

Al Dirham said that within the framework of enhancing the legislative structure of human rights in general and the human rights of women in particular, Qatar has joined international and regional conventions devoted to women’s human rights. QNA
