DOHA: The Qatar Center for Voluntary Activities has launched a six-month campaign to collect clothes and other aid to support Syrian refugees on the Jordanian border.

Through the campaign, the centre aims to collect clothes, shoes, tents, blankets, among others. “We want to provide support to the hundreds of Syrians who fled the turmoil in their country and are staying on the borders of Jordan, ahead of the forthcoming winter,” said Yousuf Ali Al Kazim, General Secretary of the organisation, while announcing the launch of the new campaign.

The centre has deployed a team of volunteers in 29 localities in Qatar to collect the donations. It is working in coordination with members of the Central Municipal Council (CMC) from each locality. The centre has tied up with two Jordanian organisations to distribute the aid among the Syrian refugees. The first consignment will be sent by the end of this week, said the official.

“We are not collecting money. Those who are interested to donate can buy clothes or other items and deliver them to our volunteers,” he added.

He said the centre had sent a letter to the Arab League informing about the campaign and urging it to encourage other Arab countries to follow suit, he said.
