Six held for tapping phones of politicians

New Delhi: Six people — three policemen and three private detectives — have been arrested for tapping phones and seeking call data records of various politicians and businessmen here, police said yesterday. Police said the six were arrested following investigation of a case of tapping the phones of senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Arun Jaitley. Police said the six were initially called for questioning after which they were booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including the Information Technology Act. During the investigation in Jaitley’s phone-tapping case, it was found that these men had also sought call records of other politicians as well as businessmen.

Malayalam film actor dead

Kozhikode: Malayalam film actor Augustine died at a private hospital yesterday morning here, his family said. He was 58. The actor is survived by his wife and two daughters, one of whom is upcoming actress Ann Augustine. His funeral will be held today. Augustine entered the Malayalam film industry in the mid eighties and since then he has acted in more than 100 films. Augustine suffered a stroke in 2010 and since then even though not fully fit, he acted in a few films. Notable among his films were Commissioner, Devasuram, Ekalavyan, Aaran Thampuran, Kazhcha and Katha Paryumbol.  His last film was Shutter that was released early this year.

Dikshit’s assets up 40pc

New Delhi: The value of assets owned by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit grew over 40 percent in the last five years, to Rs18m, according to an affidavit submitted by her yesterday. According to the affidavit, the value of her movable and immovable assets increased from Rs13m in 2008 to Rs18.3m in 2013. Her total income for 2012-13 fiscal was Rs1.3m Dikshit, who does not own a car, gave a break up of her assets. She owns jewellery worth Rs11 lakh. She has a house in Nizamuddin area with a current market value of Rs9.8m.  IANS
