PERTH, Australia: Kane Williamson scored his second century of the series Sunday as New Zealand took the fight to Australia on the third day in the second cricket test at the WACA ground.
New Zealand was 249-2 at the lunch break with Williamson, 120 not out, combining with Ross Taylor, unbeaten on 82 in a 162-run unfinished third wicket stand.
Williamson continued from where he left off in his 140 and 59 in New Zealand's 208-run defeat in the first test in Brisbane, with a brilliant innings to raise his 12th century in his 43rd test.
New Zealand resumed the day on 140-2 in reply to Australia's first innings score of 559-9 declared built on Dave Warner's maiden double ton. Warner scored 253 runs and anchored the innings with Usman Khawaja (121) in the record 302-run stand for the second wicket.
Dropped twice at short leg on Saturday, Williamson dominated the Australian pace attack that bowled either too full or short on a benign wicket that has offered very little to the bowlers.
Williamson has hit 17 fours off 185 balls in his near five-hour innings.
In a truncated morning session — 17 minutes lost to a troubled sight screen behind the bowler's arm — New Zealand scored over a run a minute. The lost time will be made up in an extended session later in the day.
Williamson brought up his second century of the series by late cutting left arm swing bowler Mitchell Johnson for his 16th boundary. Resuming the day on 70, Williamson started with two successive boundaries off seam bowler Josh Hazelwood.
Taylor on the other hand calmly accumulated his runs and brought up his half century off 74 balls. He has hit 12 fours in his 171-minute innings.
