Doha: Relegation threatened Al Shahaniya trounced title contenders
Al Sadd 3-1 to pull one of the biggest upset of the Qatar Stars League while Al Sailya edged Al Ahli 2-1 in the Round 14 matches yesterday.
At Al Gharafa, Al Shahaniya, who are languishing in the second last position in the 14-team league, owed the victory to Masoud Mohammad Reza.
The striker was in the right place at the right time to score his hat-trick. His three in a row goals came in the 45th, 66 and 89 minute. Al Sadd pulled one back in injury time to salvage some pride.
Both Al Sadd and Lekhwiya now have 33 points, with Lekhwiya enjoying a better goal difference and as a result heading the points standings.
In the another match, Al Sailiya rallied from behind to down Al Ahli. Mojtaba Jabari gave Al Ahli the lead in the 22nd minute, while Issam Jemaa equalised for Al Sailiya three minutes later.
Al Sailiya kept on pressing for the match winners and found success in the 80th minute with
Fawzi Mubarak finding the net.
The third match between Al Khairatiyat and Al Shamal ended in a three-all draw.
