Doha: Occidental Petroleum of Qatar Limited (Oxy Qatar) was the principal sponsor of the International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC) and took part in the exhibition at Qatar National Convention Center, which ran for three days until December 9.
Oxy Qatar was also Platinum Sponsor of the IPTC Young Members participating in the IPTC International Education Summit in conjunction with the 9th IPTC.
Stephen Kelly, President and General Manager of Oxy Qatar, addressed over 70 Young Members during the opening of the Education Summit. Kelly presented Occidental corporate highlights, regional operations summary, Qatar field location and a brief on local social responsibilities investments among other information. “This was a great opportunity for sponsor companies to share with students a range of perspectives on how the oil and gas industry offers diverse and exciting challenges to any young professional considering which path to follow in the coming years,” said Kelly.
Oxy Qatar’s employees contributed in different aspects of the IPTC. Saeed Al Kuwari, senior geologist, hosted and led the University students’ geological trip to Dhal Al Mesfer Sink Hole Site to give an overview of the geological setting of Qatar and specifically visit a cave representing the castification phenomena in Qatar which is associated with a sinkhole forming a cave.
Geologist Rucsandra Maria Corbeanu chaired a session of the conference about Diagenetic Controls on Reservoir Heterogeneities. Sara Al Said, Reservoir Engineer is IPTC Young Professionals programme committee member and High School programme moderator.
Walid Abou Elnour, petrophycist and co-author presented a paper titled Uncertainties in Fracture Apertures Calculated from Electrical Borehole Images in addition to the ePoster presentation for the same paper.
