Qatar continues to make rapid strides

Doha: The Secretary- General of Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Dr Thani bin Abdulrahman Al Kuwari confirmed that Directives of Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani is the main reason Qatar has achieved sporting achievements at different levels.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the occasion of the National Day, the QOC Secretary-General expressed sincere congratulations and blessings to Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the Father Emir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani on the occasion 
The QOC Secretary-General said that this cherished occasion comes as our beloved nation is continuing its bright march towards development and comprehensive construction in all walks of life according to the sound vision of our leadership and government to achieve well-being and prosperity for Qatar, its citizens and residents.
Dr Thani pointed out that Qatar National Vision 2030 translates the great importance the State of Qatar attaches to issues of comprehensive and sustainable development to the community as development of sporting sector comes at top of its priorities, noting that the QOC is continuing to strengthen community sport in order to activate the sport strategy organised by events and activities throughout the year to encourage the community to exercise and promote the concept of sport for all and sport for life.
This year Qatar has made many achievements both in terms of results or hosting and organising international tournaments, conferences and meetings and receiving sports delegations in Doha, which contributed to strengthening Qatar’s pioneering role in the world, he added.
He noted that Qatar has organized and hosted approximately 40 international tournaments in order to activate the QOC vision while expressing his pleasure over Qatar’s success in organising and hosting the 24th Men’s Handball World Championship this year. 
Dr Thani said the Qatar national team came at second place in the first achievement of its kind as the only team from outside Europe, a matter which led to increasing of Asian seats from 3 to 5 seats in the World Cup next year in addition to hosting the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships, AIBA World Boxing Championships and FINA World Swimming Championships.
The QOC Secretary-General pointed to the Qatar Open individual and collective championships, which are held annually in Doha with the participation of the heroes and heroines of the world, especially of tennis, squash, fencing, show jumping, equestrian, swimming, basketball, diving, athletics, boxing, karate, billiards and snooker, judo, taekwondo, cycling, shooting, gymnastics, golf, chess, sailing, games for persons with special needs and the UIPM 2015 Champion of Champions.
He expressed his pleasure over Qatar’s winning the right to host the 2019 World Athletics Championships after it recently succeeded in organizing the Disabled Athletics World Championships, Boxing World championship and other tournaments.
The QOC official confirmed that Doha is not only a premises to organize tournaments and compete for their titles, but it seeks to leave its fingerprints on the map of world sport in cooperation with the international federations to achieve its objectives towards developing elements of each sport and to make the Qatari athletes benefiting from experiences of athletes around the world.
He lauded the achievements of Qatari national teams and athletes at the international level, notably qualification of Qatar National Show Jumping team and the Qatari national handball team to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2016 and wishing Qatari athletes to qualify for the next Olympic Games, saying the state has provided them with all means of success to achieve their desired ambitions.
The QOC official expressed thanks and appreciation to all boards of directors of federations and clubs for their efforts to develop Qatari sports in all games and continuous coordination in accordance with the QOC plans and strategy to ensure the honorable representation for Qatar in next sports tournaments to confirm that it is going in the right way.
