725 submit applications to volunteer on Sports Day

DOHA: Over 725 people already submitted their online applications to become volunteers for the upcoming National Sports Day (NSD), just a few days after the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) had opened the programme.
QOC had worked in past events with volunteers, such as at the first edition of the National Sport Day in 2012 and the Arab Games.
The QOC started receiving applications on January 9 to create a group of individuals committed to supporting QOC’s contribution to the NSD by improving the community through sports and who take pride in assisting friends and neighbours.
With the availability of positions ranging from marketing and survey support, to special events, media operations and other NSD-related activities, the volunteer programme offers everyone the opportunity to put their skills in use, enhance their knowledge, gain significant experience, make long-lasting friendships with people from diverse backgrounds and contribute to the success of the NSD, while witnessing first-hand the activities of the day.
The NSD is celebrated every second Tuesday of February and is an initiative adopted by HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Heir Apparent.
More information about the event can be had from www.sportday.qa.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Economy and Finance announced the formation of a committee for NSD. It said that the committee will prepare a programme for organising and conducting the ministry’s sports events on the day.
