WASHINGTON: The US House of Representatives approved late Tuesday a USD 50.5 billion emergency relief aid for the victims of Superstorm Sandy.
The vote was 241 to 180 and had overwhelming support from Democrats while a majority of Republicans opposed the measure.
The Senate is expected to pass a similar package early next week, turning the measure into a bill for US President Barack Obama to sign.
This effort, known as the Hurricane Sandy Disaster Relief Act, comes almost 10 weeks after Sandy hit 24 states in the Mid-Atlantic and northeastern of the United States last October, killing over 131 persons in eight states and causing billions of dollars in damage.
Two weeks ago, the US Congress also adopted USD 9.7 billion in relief aid for the victims of Sandy. (QNA)
