DOHA: Temperatures are expected to drop further by next week, reaching the peak of winter.
The Qatar Meteorology Department in a report yesterday said a significant fall in temperatures is likely on Tuesday and Wednesday.
As days get colder, motorists may experience poor visibility due to mist and fog today and tomorrow. Sea goers are advised to take precautions in view of rough seas.
Temperatures in Doha are likely to drop by 10 degrees Celsius to 13 degrees on Tuesday and Wednesday. The maximum temperature could be between 18 and 20 degrees.
In the southern parts, the temperature might drop below eight degrees.
Strong winds and scattered rains are expected in some parts, according to Abdulla Al Mannai, Head, Forecasting and Analysis Section.
The fall in mercury and strong winds are a result of the cold wave blowing from the Mediterranean to the Gulf.
“Winds will be northwesterly and there could be scattered rain on Saturday and Sunday. This weather condition will be due to high pressure in the northern area,” Al Mannai said.
Wind speed inshore will be mild to strong by Monday noon and strong offshore by Sunday evening, with speed between 15 and 25 knots, reaching 35 knots at times.
Sea waves are likely to be six to 10 feet high, reaching 14 feet at places by Monday.
Today, Doha is likely to experience maximum and minimum temperatures hovering over 15 and 24 degrees. Abu Samra could be colder, with 10 degrees.
There will be mist and fog at places in the morning. The daytime temperature will be moderate with some clouds and the night will be relevantly cold, Al Mannai added.
