Seoul: The number of unemployed people in South Korea surpassed the one million mark in 2016, Statistics Korea said yesterday. It is the first time since 2000 that the number of unemployed reaches that figure. Of those one million, 13.1% were looking for jobs for six months. This is the highest percentage since 2002 when it reached 13.8%. Another 9,000 has been looking for a job for a full year. Since 2008, the number of people looking for jobs for six months has swung between 6-9%, until it hit double digits in 2015.
