Doha: French Ambassador Eric Chevallier yesterday visited Blood Donors Centre at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and donated blood in a bid to raise awareness about voluntary blood donation.
He was welcomed by Sadika Ismail Al Mahmoudi, Medical Manager.
Chevallier expressed full support to HMC’s efforts towards blood donation.
He told the media that the importance of blood donation “goes beyond saving lives and it conveys a strong message of solidarity”.
He hoped the French community will emulate his gesture and contribute to HMC’s blood donation campaign.
He reminded that the annual World Blood Donor Day is observed on June 14.
Al Mahmoudi said: “We are honoured by the ambassador’s support. “Blood donation is a noble act that saves the lives of many, including victims of car crashes, patients for major surgeries or transplants and those with diseases that require frequent blood transfusion.”
She said 100 percent blood sufficiency to meet the needs of patients in the increasing population is the main goal of the centre.
“The ambassador has set an excellent example for all residents of Qatar.” The Peninsula
