The QCA Board President, Yousef Jeham Al Kuwari inaugurating a cricket tournament organised to celebrate Qatar's National Sport Day on Tuesday. QCA Operations Manager, Manzoor Ahmad and other officials were also present.
The Qatar Cricket Association (QCA) joined the celebration of the National Sport Day at the West Bay Cricket Complex by hosting a Limited-Over Cricket Tournament for five communities besides launching its ambitious Youth Cricket Academy.
The QCA Board President, Yousef Jeham Al Kuwari, presided over the activities with the president also inaugurating the tournament and the academy.
According to QCA Operations Manager, Manzoor Ahmad, the president also distributed playing kits to the team managers. Ahmad welcomed the president and expressed his deep gratitude to him for coming to the ground and watching the National Sport Day activities.
He also thanked him for launching the QCA Youth Cricket Academy, which he hopes would play a big role in preparing strong national teams at all levels. On every second Tuesday in February, Qatar hosts the National Sport Day across the State to encourage the resident towards doing physical exercises and developing a healthy lifestyle.
Apart from five teams, 250 players from other clubs also enjoyed cricket matches. However, the activities had to be called off due to poor weather and rains.
The five main participating teams were Qatar (manager Manzoor Ahmad), Indian communities (manager Syed Hassan Raza), Pakistan (Manager Jamshaid Ahmad), Sri Lanka (manager Suman) and Bangladesh (manager Aminul Islam).
The format of matches were played on 10-over-a-side, while the final was to be played with each team getting 15 overs to bat.
The event was organised by the QCA events manager Gul Khan Jadoon.
He was assisted by Mohd Asaf Raza, Hassan Raza, Amjad Baig, Shamas, Jehangir and Shehzad Saleem along with other members of the QCA management team.
The QCA Youth Cricket Academy is headed by Mr. Aruna De Silva, a Level 3 qualified coach.
Other CC qualified coaches in the academy include Mr. Mohammad Amjad Baig, QCA National Team Coach, Dr Suhail, Usman Mani, Hyder, Rajeeve and Kasun Gaya.
The academy will groom the young boys providing basic coaching training, net practice, leadership skills and physical training, besides hunting talent for Qatar national teams at different levels.
