Munich: Oman's Minister responsible for Foreign Affairs Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah affirmed that the Sultanate is working to reduce tension in the Arab Gulf region, ruling out any military confrontation at the present time.

Bin Alawi said, during a dialogue session devoted to discussing tension in the region, on the sidelines of his participation in the Munich Security Conference, that communication is underway with the US and Iran within the framework of Oman's relations with the two countries, adding that there is a possibility for dialogue between them and "we are working to reduce tension in the region."

He pointed out that some have the right to feel anxious about the escalation of tension, describing Iran as a big and neighboring country in the region. "If we work to organise our interests, it may give us a sense of peace," he continued.

"There is a heavy presence of military ships in the Strait of Hormuz, this may cause errors and increase tension. Our message is that our friends consider the level of navigation security currently in the Strait of Hormuz," he said.
