LAHORE: Two more world records were established on the last day of the Punjab Youth Festival in Lahore yesterday, officials said.

The first was made in breaking maximum pine boards in 30 seconds with the head and the other was in making the largest painting. The records raised the total in the Punjab Youth Festival to 21.

The Guinness World Records has registered them.

Mohammad Rashid, of Karachi, improved his number of records to four by breaking 34 pine boards in the stipulated time with his head.

He broke American Kevin Shelley’s record of 32 pin boards broken in 30 seconds, set at El Show Olimpico, in Mexico City, on July 30, 2008.

And youngsters improved the previous record of painting with a new mark of 3,717 square metres beating the previous one of 3,130.55sqm.

Students of different colleges and universities painted the Punjab Youth Festival on the sheets at the Punjab Stadium. In the first phase of the festival, 11 records were improved. In the final phase 10 more were made.

So far not a single world record beater of the first phase has been  honoured with any cash prize and nothing has been announced for the new beaters too.

A report said two more records in lighting maximum number of candles and making biggest human chain were to be made on Thursday.

But participants after receiving their candles left the venue without demonstration.

Many said they would use the candles during loadshedding at home.
