Doha: The 31st GCC Traffic Week activities concluded at Darb Al Saiee on Saturday.
The events under the theme ‘Your decision determines your fate’, were attended by delegates from GCC countries, thousands of families and school students.
An exhibition on the sidelines was opened by Staff Maj. Gen. Saad bin Jassim Al Khulaifi, Director-General, Public Security.
Activities included workshops on traffic awareness held by Qanouf Training and Consultancies for school children, a puppet theatre, police dog shows, entertainment events and competitions organised by Qatar Today TV.
The ‘Safe Journey’ pavilion, set up by Shell Co. witnessed a massive turnout.
Toyota Co. honoured the best drivers as part of an awareness campaign organized by the company in association with the General Directorate of Traffic.
The campaign continues for the next few weeks and the company will honour 50 drivers who didn’t commit any violations until now.
Jaidah Automotive, together with the Traffic Department, announced the launch of a year-long road safety campaign. The initiative, ‘Why Risk It’ is designed to take on a new approach to spread awareness among motorists and pedestrians in Qatar.
The Harley Davidson group held a special awareness campaign on safety measures for motorbikes to help reduce accidents.
The exhibition also featured seminars on different topics. Qatari Lawyers Association organised a seminar powered by Eid Charity on traffic laws and insurance.
A seminar ‘Common traffic mistakes among communities’ was presented by Lt. Abdul Wahid Al Anazi, from Traffic Awareness Section, and Dr Muhammed Kharash from Qatar University.
Brig. Muhammad Saad Al Kharji, Director-General, Traffic Department, expressed pleasure and thanked all individuals and institutions for contributing to the success of the week.
He said activities this year focused on awareness among students and youth as the Traffic Department aimed to promote traffic culture among the new generation.
