Department of Meteorology warns of thundery rain, strong winds and high seas tonight

Doha, Qatar: The Department of Meteorology has warned of thundery rain accompanied by strong winds and high seas expected offshore tonight, according to its daily weather report published on Monday, March 16, 2026.

The report said the weather inshore until 6am on Tuesday will be scattered clouds to partly cloudy with a chance of scattered rain in some areas.

Offshore conditions will also be scattered clouds to partly cloudy with a chance of scattered rain, which may turn thundery at times. The department warned that thundery rain may be accompanied by strong winds and high seas.

Inshore winds will be northeasterly to southeasterly at a speed of 5 to 15 knots, shifting by late night to northwesterly at 8 to 18 knots.

Offshore winds will be southeasterly to easterly at 5 to 15 knots, shifting by late night to northwesterly at 10 to 20 knots, gusting up to 27 knots during thundery rain.

The sea state inshore will be 1 to 3 feet, rising to 2 to 4 or 5 feet during thundery rain. Offshore seas will be 2 to 4 feet, rising to 3 to 6 or 8 feet with thundery rain.

Visibility inshore will be 4 to 9 kilometres, while offshore visibility will be 4 to 9 kilometres, dropping to 3 kilometres or less during thundery rain.
