Malacañang yesterday expressed confidence that the decision on the illegal detention case of Janet Lim Napoles will lead to more court decisions favorable to the Filipino people, particularly in graft and corruption cases.
Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio Coloma, Jr., in an interview over ABS-CBN’s Umagang Kay Ganda Wednesday, said the court’s decision on the illegal detention case against Janet Lim Napoles bore fruit after almost two years.
“Pinatibay nito ang katayuan ni Benhur Luy at ng mga whistleblowers. At sa kabuuan, sa aming pananaw, pagbibigay ito ng lakas-loob sa mga nais tumulong sa kampanya laban sa corruption at katiwalian (This strengthens Luy’s credibility. As a whole, it gives confidence to those who want to help in our campaign against graft and corruption),” Coloma said.
The wheels of justice have been quite fast this time, he said. From the time the case was filed in August, 2013, until the decision was made in April, 2015, the elapsed time was 20 months, he said. “We hope the wheels of justice will be as swift as they have been in this case,” he added.
Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said, “We commend our prosecutors for a successful and vigorous prosecution of the case. We also commend the RTC judge for the relatively speedy disposition of the case. We hope that this shows that our judiciary, especially in the courts of origin, can promulgate decisions within a relatively swifter period, thus complying with the constitutional right of a person to a speedy trial.”
According to Coloma, this is one of the judicial reforms the Aquino administration wants to see. He expressed confidence that there will be a court decision soon on graft and corruption cases filed.
