Tehran: Severe flood and landslide in western and northwestern parts of Iran have so far claimed 42 lives and left seven missing.
The head of the Crisis Management Organization Ismail Najjar said the flood in the northwestern cities of Azarshahr and Ajabshir were hit the hardest by the flood, killing 20 people, only 18 of them were found.
In a statement to IRNA news agency on Sunday, Najjar said that 22 people were killed in Azarshahr in East Azerbaijan province, only 17 of the bodies were found.
He added that one person was killed by the floods in the western Azerbaijan, and another person was killed in Kurdistan province after torrential rains, while four others were killed in a park in Saqqez city in Kordestan.
Najjar further pointed out that flash floods that occurred on Friday after heavy rainfall damaged the infrastructure, public utilities and agricultural lands in many areas of the three provinces, in addition to the province of Zanjan.
