E-sports have never had it so good. With mainstream sports around the world on hold E-sports may have just emerged as the answer for many to fill the empty hours of lockdown and isolation.

The universe of gaming and E-sports has long garnered attention owing to the segment’s ability to provide an impressive mode of entertainment. In fact, this world of indoor gaming has been stealing the limelight in the last few months because of the rampant coronavirus pandemic that confined millions across the globe to their homes.

The borderless nature of gaming is allowing E-sports to thrive during coronavirus.

In Qatar, Ahmed Al Meghessib, professional football player and official Paris Saint-Germain Esports athlete hosted a three-day the Paris Saint-Germain E-Challenge which ended here yesterday.

His aim was to entertain the gaming community in Qatar during the lockdown.

In the first edition, 16 local influencers and athletes were invited by Aameghessib to join this initiative and take part in the exciting E-Football tournament!

Basam Hisham, Mohammed Adnan, Adullah Al Tamimi and the other selected guests competed in an online knock out tournament with one goal: Challenge Aameghessib in the big final!

All the games were broadcast and commented by the Paris Saint-Germain Esport champion on his Twitch Channel accessible online here

Ahmed Al Meghessib, Paris Saint-Germain Esports player, said : “In this difficult time where people have to stay home it’s important to create content and entertainment.

Paris Saint-Germain and myself wanted to come up with a different angle than the other esports competition by running a tournament involving local personalities that people, not limited to gamers, will enjoy to watch. “I’m happy that all the solicited guests accepted to be part of it and I really want to thank all of them for their support!”

Fabien Dilem, General Manager of the Regional Paris Saint-Germain Office in Doha, added: “After releasing our Paris Saint-Germain Academy remote training programs early in March, Esports was the natural next step for the club to engage the local community. We are lucky to have Ahmed in our team, he is not only an Esports player but a strong local ambassador for Paris Saint-Germain. He has done an amazing job to make this happen!”
