Doha: The Bosnian and Herzegovina community in Qatar has once again demonstrated its environmental commitment by participating in a clean-up campaign at the Al Thakira mangroves near Al Khor.
On Thursday night, around 30 members of the community gathered to preserve one of the country’s most beautiful natural escapes. The group collected approximately 340 kilograms of waste, including plastic bottles, bags, and other debris, which were safely disposed of. The event was organised in cooperation with the Doha Environmental Actions Project (DEAP) and aimed to raise awareness about the importance of preserving Qatar’s diverse and unique ecosystem.
According to Vahid Suljic, the project manager of the BiH Community, the community is very engaged in community work, and this clean-up is just one of their many activities. “Qatar has such a diverse and unique ecosystem, and we do this to give back and help protect it for future generations to enjoy. Plastic pollution is a serious problem, and we hope to inspire others not to litter and to recycle,” he said.
The Bosnian community’s dedication to environmental causes has not gone unnoticed, with their efforts being praised by the DEAP. “We are very pleased to see the community taking such an active role in preserving Qatar’s environment. Their commitment to this cause is commendable and sets a positive example for others to follow,” said a DEAP spokesperson. The campaign was an opportunity for the community to give back to Qatar and an educational activity for their children.
