Doha: The Orphan Care Centre (Dreama) recently celebrated Arab Orphan Day, which takes place annually on the first Friday of April, aiming to highlight the challenges faced by orphans and raise awareness about their rights.
The centre focuses on fostering compassion and unity within society while empowering Dreama’s children and boosting their self-confidence and self-reliance. Encouraging them to embrace responsibility, the centre inspires them to remain positive, hopeful, resilient, and determined when confronting life’s obstacles.
The Arab Orphan Day event featured numerous activities, with the centre establishing an awareness pavilion at the Place Vendome Mall. The pavilion included a space for children to write kind words, as well as visitors’ participation with their own kind words.
Distinguished attendees included Their Excellencies Sheikha bint Jassim Al Thani, Assistant Undersecretary for Family Affairs; Sheikha Najlaa bint Ahmed Al Thani, Executive Director of Dreama Orphan Care Centre; Sheikh Nasser bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Thani, Executive Director of Aman Centre; and guests from various social centres.
Dreama organised an awareness activity for Arab Orphan Day at Al Manar School, where students engaged with the Dreama programme and shared kind words that emphasised the significance and impact of kindness on the soul. Dreama’s celebration of Arab Orphan Day also featured a variety of posts shared on their social media platforms, which included contributions from influencers, educators, and leaders.
H E Sheikha Najlaa bint Ahmed Al Thani highlighted that the centre, through its celebration of Arab Orphan Day, aims to demonstrate the impact of words on individuals.
She referred to this year’s theme, which embodies a significant life value inspired by the Quranic verse “Do you not see how Allah presents an example of a kind word like a good tree, whose root is firm and its branches high in heaven?” This verse alludes to the strength and stability of kind words, likening them to a healthy tree that grows properly and bears
good fruit.
This initiative reflects the significant attention that the Qatar Foundation for Social Work gives to orphans, supporting all events related to them, including Arab Orphan Day.
Sheikha Najlaa expressed her gratitude and appreciation to Fmm for sponsoring this celebration as a leading company offering various services in Qatar. She emphasised that all events organised by the Dreama Centre primarily aim to raise community awareness about orphan-related issues and highlight the importance of the psychological support provided
to them.
Irene Vidal Fernandez, Executive Director of Fmm, expressed her delight in participating in these humanitarian events that positively impact the morale of the children at Dreama. She confirmed that such contributions align with the company’s social responsibility and its vision to support the Dreama Centre.
This collaboration moves towards carrying out effective community roles and fostering closer cooperation with Dreama based on the values of corporate social responsibility for all segments of society.
