Doha: The State of Qatar has welcomed the prisoner exchange process between the Yemeni government and the Houthis, and considered it a humanitarian gesture and a positive step that would pave the way for a comprehensive political solution.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Qatar’s aspiration that this process contributes to strengthening efforts aimed at establishing sustainable peace, in a way that achieves the aspirations of the brotherly Yemeni people for security and development.
The Ministry renewed the position of Qatar calling for a solution to the Yemeni crisis based on the Gulf initiative and relevant Security Council resolutions, especially Resolution No. 2216.
The ministry also expressed Qatar’s appreciation for the role of the Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Yemen and the International Committee of the Red Cross in facilitating prisoner exchanges.
