DOHA: Students at the Al Ahnaf Bin Qais Independent Preparatory School were taught essential first aid skills at a special healthy lifestyles exhibition organised as part of the work of the Health Professions Awareness Program (HPAP) and Volunteering Programs at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).
Mini workshops were held to train students on first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as part of the exhibition which saw a number of HMC’s departments participate, including the Ambulance Service, Psychiatry Department, Ophthalmology Clinic, Children’s Special Education Center, Dietetics Department, Hearing and Balance Unit, the health and safety campaign Kulluna, Kidney Dialysis Unit, Nursing Department, the Smoking Cessation Clinic and Patient and Family Education.
Kulluna’s stand focused on raising awareness on home safety among the students, particularly featuring its innovative ‘giant kitchen’ to help the participants visualize six hazards faced by children at home: falls, burns, drowning, being hit by cars on the driveway, choking and poisoning. Children also played interactive educational games using iPads.
Balqees Al Khazraji, Director of the HPAP and Volunteering Programs at HMC said the exhibition was designed to showcase the benefits of leading a healthy lifestyle.
“This objective for this exhibition is to promote the students’ social, psychological and physical health, by motivating them to adopt healthy lifestyles,” said Al Khazraji.
