ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-N government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has ordered a transparent auction of 3G spectrum and given approval for appointing three members to Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA), official sources said yesterday.
The three members include member finance, member technical and member enforcement, and their selection will pave the way for appointment of the PTA chairman to start the auction of 3G spectrum.
The PTA faced a war among its members to grab power during the tenure of the previous government. The government even amended the Telecom Act to make appointments but the Islamabad High Court came in the way.
The Cabinet Division has floated an advertisement for the appointment of three members.
However, reservations are being expressed about the criteria set for the appointment of member enforcement and member finance, while no criteria has been mentioned for the member technical. The authority will take four months to complete the process.
