DOHA: Reach Out To Asia (Rota),   hosted a celebration event at QF Recreation Center to honour members of its Rota Youth Service Clubs whose service projects are making a difference in Qatar’s local communities.

Supported by grants from Vodafone Qatar, 10 Rota Youth Service Clubs worked for 10 months on a broad range of projects related to sports for development, the environment, Arabic language integration and Skills Development.

“ROTA’s youth strategy equips young people in Qatar with skills and experiences which enable them to become responsible, capable, civic minded youth who are actively seeking to make their community and the world a better place, by taking direct action to address local social and global issues,” Rota’s Executive Director, Essa Al Mannai, said.

Share’s ‘Shrink’ is the latest addition to Rota Youth Service Clubs. This project aims to addresses the problem of obesity, whereas “Bricks Of Hope”, is a project about rebuilding a school in Somalia, in which most of the school students are orphans.

Video for Advocacy, a project created by Film for Change Youth Club of Qatar University and Northwestern University students to teach 20 Rota Youth Service Club members how to create high quality, cutting-edge social awareness videos.

Top Shabab’s ‘I Care’ project changed the attitude of Qatar University students towards low-skilled workers. Youth Without Borders raised awareness about the poor conditions of recreational and sports facilities in Gaza and the West Bank with its Sports Education for Palestinian Youth project, while The Changers are taking on the challenge of developing the human potential of 24 ambitious students as they discover their talents, their future path and themselves.

“Rota is thrilled to partner with Vodafone Qatar as the sponsor of our Youth Service Clubs,” added Al Mannai. “Vodafone helped in inspiring many of ambitious young Qataris who are determined to transform their service learning ambitions into solutions that address real local or global issues.” ‘Educatement’ project at Qatar University is to develop culture and talent and the scientific level of the young students. It aims to raise children’s creativity and to help discover and grow creativity and innovation among young children.

Managed by Rota’s Community Development Department, Youth Service Clubs are founded on a youth/adult partnership in which young people are encouraged to organise themselves to carry out service projects in partnership with Rota and an adult mentor within their academic institutions. The Peninsula
