Doha: Twenty players from Qatar will be seen in action in Stage One - qualifying rounds - of the World 9-ball Pool Championship (W9BC) which will kick off here today at Al Sadd Stadium.
The Qatari players comprise the 128 players who are vying for a place in Stage Two final phase of the championship.
The Qatari players who will seen action in Stage 1 includes Fahad Al Saadi, Ali Saeed, Mohammad Al Yazidi, Mohammad Sultan, Ali Al Marri, Khamis Al Obaidly, Taher Hussain, Tajammual Hussain, Mohammad Al Zahid, Muzzamil Hussain, Paul McKeowan, Madji Bustami, Rachad Mohammad, Zaid Al Shuraiti, Wesam Al Ahmadi, Alaa Bata, Osama Hatim, Francisco Felicilda, Robert Brillantes and Jonathan Hermoso.
Twelve places are up for grabs at the qualifying stage of the $200,000 prize money event.
The 12 qualifiers will join 116 seeded players who will see action in Stage Two beginning from June 20.
The final will be on June 27.
Qatar has the rights to host the World Pool-Billiard Association championship consecutively until 2017.
The championship is sponsored by Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), while Simonis (cloth) are the co-sponsors.
The championship is sanctioned by World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA) and Asian Pocket Billiard Union (APBU).
All the matches on the 14 tables will be streamed live on the Qatar Billiards and Snooker Federation (QBSF) website www.qbsf.qa.
