DOHA: Reach Out To Asia (Rota) recently hosted a special iftar at the Residential Care Compound — a care facility for men with psychiatric conditions under Rumailah Hospital.

The special iftar organised on July 10, was attended by nearly 20 residents of the Residential Care Compound with the aim of promoting solidarity and brotherhood during the holy month reiterating the importance of giving back to the community.

Rota Volunteers actively participated in the event as these patients tasted a sumptuous spread of delicacies for the iftar, and enjoyed an exciting evening of entertainment.

Essa Al Mannai, Executive Director of Rota, said: “Rota is committed to building partnerships with Qatar’s community-based organisations. The Holy Month of Ramadan is a time to reflect on solidarity and foster camaraderie and community iftars is our way of caring and sharing with others.”

“Our initiative to host community iftar at the Residential Care Compound is one of many Rota Ramadan activities and reiterates our focus on reaching out to all members of society,” Al Mannai said.

Community iftar events are a key part of Rota’s Ramadan 2013 Project, sponsored by OXY Qatar, which includes distributing grocery supplies to disadvantaged families, house ‘makeover’ renovations for families in need and sharing the joy of Garangao Night alongside children with medical conditions.

“Community-based organisations make an enormous impact on the lives of the people they work with, and strengthen the community as a whole,” added Al Mannai.

“Their programmes provide opportunities to people who otherwise wouldn’t have access to the support they need. Rota is proud to recognize the contribution they make to society and show our support for the work they do.”

Designed to boost Rota’s community initiatives and extend a helping hand to less privileged families in Qatar, the Ramadan Project also includes Garangao celebration with child patients, House Renovations as well as iftar meals with community-based institutions.
