New Delhi: A Jharkhand woman attempted suicide last afternoon by consuming a pesticide near the Parliament House here as she could not get a job in a central government undertaking on compassionate grounds after her father’s death, said police.
Sukumari, 25, consumed pesticide around 2pm near a fountain at Vijay Chowk, adjacent to the Parliament House complex, police said. No suicide note was recovered.
She was rushed to hospital where her condition was stated to be out of danger, police said.
“She consumed pesticide as she could not get a job in Central Coalfields Ltd in Jharkhand after the premature death of her father who was employed in the company,” said a police officer.
“Her father died in 1989. She was supposed to get a job on compassionate ground. But, despite her repeated attempts, she failed to get one,” said the officer.
She came to the capital Wednesday and decided to commit suicide near Parliament House to highlight her misery.
Sukumari also tried to commit suicide in Jharkhand in 2011, police said.
