Embassy of Bangladesh marks National Mourning Day

Embassy of Bangladesh in Doha observed the 44th anniversary of martyrdom of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Mourning Day yesterday with due solemnity.

On the occasion, the national flag was hoisted at half-mast to nationwide commemorate the martyrdom of Bangabandhu and his family members. Recitation of the Holy Quran was done from the early morning seeking the salvation of the departed souls of Bangabandhu, his family members who were brutally killed on August 15, 1975.

Floral wreath was laid at the portrait of Bangabandhu on behalf of the Embassy, Bangladesh School and different political and community organisations in Qatar to pay tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his great contribution for the independence of Bangladesh.

During the discussion, messages given on the day by the President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and the State Minister were read out before the gatherings.

The Ambassador of Bangladesh to Qatar, Ashud Ahmed, in his remarks, expressed his deep homage to the memory of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman whose heroic leadership ushered the Bengali nation to their long cherished dream of independence. He applauded the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, daughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who has uplifted Bangladesh as the role model of development in the comity of the nations.

He reaffirmed his commitment to render maximum services to the people in line with Government’s seamless efforts to turn Bangladesh into a ‘Golden Bengal’. In the same vein, he called upon all members of Bangladesh community in Qatar to abide by the law and uphold the image of Bangladesh in Qatar.

A documentary titled ‘Our Bangabandhu’ was played to highlight life and activities of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. A Milad and special prayer was held to seek eternal salvation of all martyrs and peace and prosperity of Bangladesh. A large number of people representing different professions, political and community organisations in Qatar participated in the observance of the National Mourning Day.
