Emir, Premier congratulate presidents

Doha: The Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday sent a cable of congratulations to the President of Salvador, Carlos Mauricio Funes Cartagena,  on his country’s National Day.

The Emir also sent a cable of greetings to the President of Nicaragua, José Daniel Ortega Saavedra, on his country’s Independence Day.

The Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani sent similar greetings to the presidents.

Farewell party for envoys  

Doha: The Assistant Foreign Minister for International Cooperation Affairs H E Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohamed bin Jabor Al Thani yesterday hosted a farewell party for outgoing ambassadors Emre Yunt (Turkey) and Ali Salman Al Haifi (Kuwait).

Heads of diplomatic missions and offices, the Director of Protocols Department, Ibrahim Youssuf Fakhro, and other officials, attended the event at the Diplomatic Club.

QR25m for students project

Doha: The Zakat Fund has allocated QR25m for its annual knowledge seekers project for the academic year 2013-2014, the largest budget for the project since its inception in 1996.

The number of beneficiaries is expected to reach 8,000 students at different educational levels of  pre-school to university,  including students with disabilities.

The project aims to sponsor the largest number of students, contribute to the alleviation of the suffering of poor families with limited incomes, eradicate illiteracy, ignorance and disseminate knowledge among Muslims.

The head of the collection section at the fund Ahmed Al Mesaifri said the project is the largest and most for fund.
