DOHA: Goods and special equipment for people with special needs have been exempted from custom duties.
The new law No. 16 of 2014 issued by the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday took immediate effect aims at easing the burden of paying customs duties on goods they need most.
The law follows a proposal by  the GCC Financial and Economic Co-operation Committee in its meeting in May 2012 in Riyadh to exempt some products used by people with special needs from customs duties.
The following are some of the goods exempted: Cars made to be driven with both hands without the use of the legs for the people who use wheel chairs or have paralysed legs, bicycles for people with disabilities or the elderly, devices to facilitate the hearing for the deaf and electronic equipment for the blind people.
The law applies to all special items imported in the past three years. The Peninsula
