DOHA: Delay in completion of the temporary metal bridge being constructed in Abu Hamour has worsened the traffic congestions in the area, say residents.
Work on the bridge was supposed to be completed by mid-August, but it is expected to continue at least for one month, a local Arabic daily reported yesterday quoting a source at the Public Works Authority (Ashghal).
The source said about 80 percent of the project has been completed, without giving any specific date for completion.
The Abu Hamour area has been witnessing heavy traffic jams, especially after opening of the schools. The area houses more than a dozen private schools, with several thousands of students on their rolls. The 240m metal bridge has been proposed as a temporary solution to the traffic bottlenecks in the area, but the continuing construction works have become yet another problem, say residents.
“Delays are a prominent feature of Ashghal projects. But people are more concerned about road project because it directly affects their daily life,” the daily said quoting a citizen, Hassan Al Hammadi.
The sign board showing the original date of completion of the project has been removed giving no clues when it would be finally completed.
According to Eng Ali Al Ammadi, such metal bridges should not take more than two months to complete, given the fact the parts come ready.
He also felt that the one-way bridge is too inadequate to solve the traffic jams and it should have two lanes.
