Doha, Qatar: The General Assembly of the Union of Arab Football Associations (UAFA) yesterday elected Minister of Youth and Sports and Honourary President of the Qatar Football Association (QFA) H E Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani as Vice President of UAFA by acclamation, during its meeting in Riyadh.
The Assembly also re-elected Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, President of the Arab Football Association, as Chairman of the Federation Council for a new term (2025–2029). Membership of the Council was endorsed for Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali bin Isa Al-Khalifa, Engineer Hani Abu Rida, Fawzi Lekjaa, Hashem Haidar, Abdullah Al-Junaibi, Ahmed Yahya, and Dr. Moatasem Jaafar, along with Lieutenant General Jibril Rajoub representing the State of Palestine and Samar Nassar as the women’s representative.
Following the meeting, agreements were signed with the federations of Egypt, Iraq, the UAE, Libya, Lebanon, Mauritania, and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation to host 14 Arab championships between 2026 and 2029.
UAFA’s 79th Council meeting, held earlier, approved the administrative and financial reports of the General Secretariat. 
The new 80th Council meeting then convened and elected Engineer Hani Abu Rida as First Vice President and Sheikh Hamad as Second Vice President.
On the sidelines, the President of the Arab Football Association, accompanied by the two Vice Presidents, Council members, and General Assembly representatives, toured an exhibition organised to mark the Association’s 50th anniversary.
