Doha: Total recently ran a heart health awareness event in collaboration with VLCC, a renowned wellness brand in Asia and the Middle East, at its offices in Alfardan towers, Doha.
This was the second event of Total’s ‘Healthy Lifestyle’ campaign, following Diabetes Awareness Day earlier this year.
The heart health awareness programme began with presentations by heart specialists from VLCC, who examined employees and explained different types of heart diseases, and ways to prevent them.
The employees then took part in a 15-minute physical activity, made up of a warm-up, aerobics, stretching, and cooling down. They were then screened for blood pressure and heart rate. They were also invited to indulge in healthy food and drinks at a ‘Healthy Corner’ at the company’s canteen. Heart disease is a serious problem in Qatar, with two out of three heart attack patients under 55. Half of all stroke patients in Qatar are also under 55, according to a study by Weill Cornell and Hamad Medical Corporation.
Lifestyle and obesity have been identified as the main reason for heart disease among Qataris and expats.
“Being active, eating healthy food and having regular check-ups are ways to lead a healthy lifestyle,” said Mohamed Basser (pictured), Health, Safety and Environment Manager, Total E&P Qatar.
“We encourage our employees to prioritise their health, and with this campaign, we believe that everyone can achieve healthier lifestyles. We thank our partner, VLCC, for support to our campaign.”
