DOHA: Qatari Primary Materials Company (QPMC) signed a contract with Britain’s TRL to recycle construction waste and cooperate in environmental studies.
The agreement also involves the two sides undertaking practical solutions to turn local construction waste, of demolished old buildings for example, to usable products in building development, infrastructure and others.
The new agreement was signed to support Qatar’s strategy of achieving sustainable development and environmental protection. The two sides will start their cooperation in the first quarter of 2017. Eisa Al Hammadi, CEO of QPMC said the agreement was part of the company’s strategy of placing sustainable development and environmental protection at the heart of its operations.
He noted that the cooperation with TRL will help reduce imports of certain products in the construction sector, since some of the recycled materials could be used for construction again. Al Hammadi anticipated that the move will bring down pricing and reduce the work load on ports. Khaled Hassan, Regional Manager of TRL said the company was pleased to sign the contract with QMPC and expressed his confidence that it will be a boost to Qatar’s sustainability efforts. Both parties will work closely with government sectors and research bodies to study the types of recycled materials produced and ensure that the quality is up to international standards and best practices. it will enable the development of the construction sector in Qatar.
Studies that Britain and Qatar held showed that the recycled construction waste can be used in a number of applications in the construction sector.
QPMC is a Qatari company launched by the government to guarantee the constant support of primary materials for the construction sector. TRL is a world-leading consultancy that provides research, technology and software solutions.
